The Center of the Performing Arts proudly presents its annual spring show on May 29th and 30th at the Havelock Performing Arts Center. Over 130 dancers and parent volunteers will take the stage to bring two wonderful ballets to life.
Join Gigi as she reminisces over her 100 years of life with her beloved Great-Granddaughter, Marcie. Loves stories, sad stories, stories of separation and war will be told in a lovely, sometimes humorous dialogue during Act 1. “Melodies and Memories” revolves around the theme of how the songs are connected to our most beloved memories.
“Petrushka” brings music, dance, and design together in a unified whole. It is one of the most popular of the Ballets Russes productions, first performed in 1911. This production uses the original designs and choreography from the Michel Fokine’s early production of “Petroushka” to celebrate the history and beauty of this classic ballet. Lavish costumes and scenery are recreated and the principle characters follow the original choreography, while performers in the crowd scenes’ choreography is inspired by the orginal and adapted for dancers of all ages!
"Petroushka" tells the story of the loves and jealousies of three puppets. The three are brought to life by the Charlatan during 1830 Shrovetide Fair in St. Petersburg, Russia. We see the puppets’ story of love and jealousy played out for the crowd and later we see the hauting reflection being repeated behind the closed doors of the the puppet theater.
